Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace network
04 Aug 2010 - RSA, London
The Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace (ESJP) network are delighted to announce their Sixth Annual International Conference, to be co-hosted with the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (The RSA) in London from August 4th to 6th 2010. We are also collaborating in this venture with the UK Higher Education Funding Council’s Engineering Subject Centre and Engineers Against Poverty.
The interdisciplinary ESJP network formed in 2004 and has grown in its passion and mission to create a knowledge base, support network, scholarship and education to promote the education of engineers who promote social justice and peace. The first five conferences have been held in North America and we are particularly pleased that this meeting will be the first in Europe where we hope to grow our network. The RSA through their ‘Design and Society’ program, whose aims are very similar to our own, are excited to work with us and we are developing a two day meeting which will include papers, interactive discussions, creative workshops and the chance to network with RSA Fellows in an evening reception with an invited speaker (TBA).
Currently we are seeking expressions of interest and would be pleased to receive notification of your intention to attend and if you would be interested in presenting a short paper for discussion or preparing an interactive or creative session.
Engineering Education in Sustainable Development, EESD10
19 Sep 2010 - Göteborg and Stockholm, Sweden
Sustainable development requires a shift towards a society that better addresses basic human needs and the limitations of natural systems. A transformation of e.g. mindsets, educational approaches, societal structures, technical systems and economic accounting methods is needed. Engineering education institutions can play an important role in this transformation and in the sustainable society if sustainable development becomes a framework for a redesign of the structure and goal of organizations and of pedagogical, research and cooperation approaches and methods. This conference addresses the role of engineering education in the learning for the required transformation.
EESD 2010 is the fifth conference in a series of biannual international conferences dealing with all aspects of the education of engineers for sustainable development. The date of the conference is the 19th to the 22nd of September in Göteborg and there is also a side event on the 23rd of September in Stockholm.
