Several Computer Aided Learning (CAL) nuggets were developed by the centre for the Water Engineering Development Centre (WEDC). The 'nuggets' were developed to assist students with visualisation of physical or technical processes relevant to water engineering. The software was interactive incorporating short decision making process interactions to engage the learners.
As many of the students that are enrolled on the WEDC programmes spend a proportion of their study working in a developing country, with limited computer access, each CAL 'nuggets' was designed to fit on a floppy disc and to run on a low specification machine.
The 'Sanitation Selection software includes: a step by step approach to the decision making process involved when selecting sanitaion according to different environmental conditions and contexts. The sofware was developed using Macromedia's Authorware.
