Several Computer Aided Learning (CAL) nuggets were developed by the centre for the Water Engineering Development Centre (WEDC). The 'nuggets' were developed to assist students with visualisation of physical or technical processes relevant to water engineering. The software was interactive incorporating assessments, animations, simualtions etc to engage the learners.
As many of the students that are enrolled on the WEDC programmes spend a proportion of their study working in a developing country, with limited computer access, each CAL 'nugget' was designed to fit on a floppy disc and to run on a low specification machine.
The Saline Intrusion software incorporated interactions and garphics looking: at the physical relationship between fesh and saline water, how aquifers work, and potential problems and their solutions when extracting water from aquifers. The sofware was developed using Macromedia's Authorware.
