The PASS (Peer ASesment System) started as an advisory board project with Dr Peter Willmot (Wolfson School). It is an online peer assessment tool which provides an easy to use method for peer moderated marking of group work.

There is an interface for staff to allocate students to groups for a particular module, to input marking criteria and set the dates that the form will be available to the students. Take a tour of the staff side of web-pa:

When the student has logged into PASS, they can only access the form made available to their particular group, they then allocate marks to all group members (including themselves) for each of the criteria and submit the form.

PASS normalises and processes the data using a standard algorithm and returns the results to the lecturer either as processed data, or alternatively as raw data so that an alternative algorithm can be used.

Within an October 2001 TQEF (Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund) project part of the remit was to disseminate and embed the Peer Assesment System into each Faculty. In January 2003, the system was redesigned by the EEC, renamed 'Web-PA' and Computing Services (LEARN team) updated the resource. This system is administered by computing services: Learn team.

UPDATED WEB-PA

The Engineering Education Centre has now updated the old Peer Assessment system and is currently piloting this version within 3 departments.
