This Authorware based courseware is an interactive tutorial on the McCabe Thiele Technique used to solve binary distillation problems in chemical engineering. By allowing the user to go through a planned route while solving any tutorial question, this software enables the understanding and visualisation of this difficult concept. Extensive interactivity and various levels of feedback given to the user help self study encouraging the user to take more responsibility in the learning process. A help section provides customised guidance based on the stage where the user is through the tutorial question. This Courseware is available to use on the university intranet (via CAL Launcher) on a PC.
As the first stage, the user is given the opportunity to identify important flow and distillation parameters and collate all data. After doing relevant calculations, the user can interactively plot the operating lines and distillation trays and receive immediate feedback. The final answers given by the user will be checked and feedback is given. This software has been well received by students due to the advanced level of interactivity and immediate feedback.
