Integrated tool to assist students in time management.

The aim of this project is to develop a tool to assist staff and students in accessing and using assessment data easily and efficiently.

Visually this tool should display information to assist time management in relation to the work process, plus clearly define assessment criteria. This may be in the form of calendar or other suitable interface into which assignments, weighting and deadlines are automatically populated.  The student would also be able to add personal notes and ‘pinch points’ related to their own lives and activities to assist in identifying and plotting work periods.

The tool should be easily populated by module leaders before the start of each semester; ideally for a whole academic year. This would include module title and code, assignment submission dates with weightings, assignment briefs and assessment criteria. These would operate on different levels to ensure a simple, accessible front end.

The tool should enable students to immediately see their assignments, due dates and assessment criteria.  This will be on the basis of a ‘one stop’ page related to Learn.  It would not be necessary to follow links across different modules.

The tool would be developed for D&T but be flexible enough to be adapted to most other departments

Progress: 30%

The feasibility study revealed that the existing calendar available in LEARN offers a large amount of the functionality required for this project. The project will therefore concentrate on providing both a student and a staff guide on how to use the calendar effectively to aid students in time management.

Details of the calendar functionality are being gathered and guidelines are under development.
