Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) is currently taught to students in both Design and Technology (D&T) and the Business School, using extended tutorials and lectures.  We will expand on these to produce a pilot e-case study focusing on the misuse of medical devices.

It is anticipated that the e-case study will be an interactive website with linked and embedded resources, including videos, written testimonials and pdf manuals. The engCETL will take the lead in developing the format of the e-case study, ensuring its compatibility with Learn and providing technical solutions to capture students’ process and progress in working through the case study.

The e-case study will be piloted in two postgraduate modules; one in D&T and one in the Business School. Having been introduced to the e-case study in the lecture, both sets of students will then use FMEA to analyse the case.  Their analysis will be captured using an appropriate method (developed in conjunction with engCETL) and uploaded to the resource, allowing each set of students to study and reflect upon the conclusions of the other. A qualitative review will be carried out to evaluate the prototype e-case study tool.

Latest Update - July 2010

Progress: 100%

Several project team meetings have taken place to scope the main Scenario of the e-Casestudy and to co-ordinate effort of the team. The project now involves Sandra Huskinson (Online Learning Development Officer) from the Business School, who will be organising the film shoots and editing the footage.

A mock-up example using the online tool UDUTU was created. This was seen as a bit to functional looking and not bespoke enough. It was decided to create the e-casestudy as a stand alone website.

Final site created in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JQuery.
