Cross-Department Collaborative Projects

Date: July, 2009 - February, 2010

Proposed By: Prof Ron Summers

Staff Contacts: Richard Newman, Adam Crawford

This project intends to address a key recommendation from the Royal Academy of Engineering, Engineers for the 21st Century Report:
“to give students in a university department, experience of working in multidisciplinary teams working on realistic projects” and:
“to embed multidisciplinary approaches based on systems thinking, with strong industry links, within all engineering courses.”

The project will look at running parallel individual projects within different departments which integrate toward one common goal.

The CETL will look at constraints across departments including: credit weightings, time-tabling, selection scheduling and relevant regulations and to document the experiences of Loughborough staff who have previously tried to implement similar projects.

Latest Update - October 1998

Progress: 20%

A review of existing departmental project modules has been conducted together with interviews of several staff who have previously looked at implementing cross-programme projects.
