There is currently a significant difficulty in giving large numbers of students sufficient and timely feedback on their experiment work. The coursework assessment carries 15% of the total mark for the Control Systems Design Part B and C compulsory module and is currently assessed on the report that they produce from the coursework.
An electronic system is to be used to speed up the marking process, thus reducing the time students have to wait for feedback. The quality of the feedback will also be more consistent and will allow students to interact with a web-based system that they are comfortable with.
The project will develop a coursework assessment that uses interactive features in enhanced Learn, such as assignments/quizzes. The project will investigate online recorded submissions and the automated marking procedure. Resources created can be adapted and added to by the academic subsequent to the project. The process of using the enhanced Learn features will be transferable to other modules.

Latest Update - January 2009
Progress: 100%
Learn quiz and assignment capabilities have been determined. Control System questions, answers and feedback material have now been produced and questions have been structured in Learn.
The marking scheme to be used for the assignment has now been established. Members of staff from the electrical department are currently testing the assessment quiz.
The coursework has been handed out to the students in preparation for running the assessment quiz online. Students will be given access to the quiz once the testing is complete in early December.
Students used the quiz from January 2009.
