Graduating from Oxford University in 1994 with a degree in Engineering Science, I then worked in Sydney, Australia for a firm of consulting engineers. I joined Loughborough University in 1996, initially working within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

In 1997, I set up, and became Manager of, the Faculty of Engineering Teaching and Learning Support Centre (renamed the Engineering Education Centre). In 1999, I successfully bid for the LTSN Engineering Centre (now the Engineering Subject Centre) and became its Manager in 2000 and Associate Director in 2003. On returning from maternity leave in 2005, I joined the engCETL as its part-time Associate Director.

My role within the engCETL is to lead the strategic activities of the Centre. This involves development of operational and strategic plans, marketing the engCETL externally, initiating and developing new ideas and activities, development of protocols, a research ethos and evaluation strategy, developing ideas for income generation and representing the Centre internally and externally. As Associate Director, I also provide essential support to both the Director and Centre Manager as required, in particular providing direction for the establishment of the new Centre and its facilities.
